Privacy Policy
- We collect what's needed to paint your pets: the photos you pick, your pets' details, your town for the weather, and a few settings.
- To make the art, we send your pet photos and details to AI services (OpenAI and Google, with Anthropic as a backup). We ask for your permission first.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- You can delete photos, pets or your whole account in the app at any time.
Who we are
Petcast is made by Kampy Software LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Petcast apps, their widgets and shortcuts, and petcast.app. Questions or requests: support@petcast.app.
What we collect
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | A random account ID and sign-in token created on your device, and your device type (for example "iPhone"). No email address or password is needed to use the app. | To keep your pets and art together and sign you in. |
| Your name | The first name you choose to give, if any. | To greet you and show household members who's who. |
| Pet photos | Only the photos you pick. We resize them and remove location and other metadata on your phone before upload. | Reference images so the art looks like your pets. |
| Pet details | Names, species, breed, appearance descriptions, personality quiz answers, birthdays, gotcha days, and whether a pet has passed away. | To make the art personal and celebrate special days. |
| Location | The town you choose, its approximate coordinates (rounded to about 1 km), and your time zone. If you tap "use my location", your phone's location is used once to find your town and isn't stored precisely. | Your local forecast and season, and morning delivery at the right time. |
| Settings | Delivery time, picture orientation, art styles, any custom style descriptions you write, and your shelter nomination. | To make and deliver the art the way you like it. |
| Art and feedback | The pictures we make, the scene descriptions behind them, your thumbs up or down, and any feedback notes. | To show your archive and improve the art. |
| Household | Which household you belong to and its invite code. | To share pets and art with the people you invite. |
| App usage | Simple events such as "app opened", "setup step finished", "art shared" or "widget help viewed", with timestamps. | To understand what works and fix what doesn't. |
| Subscription | Whether you have an active subscription or trial. The app store handles payment; we never see your card details. | To provide what you paid for. |
| Support messages | Anything you send to support@petcast.app. | To help you. |
We don't collect your contacts, your other photos, advertising identifiers, or browsing history. The app only sees photos you select in the system photo picker.
How the art gets made (AI services)
Before any photo is uploaded, the app asks your permission to share the following with the AI services that make the art. Each day we send:
- OpenAI and Google (Gemini): one to four of your pet photos, your pets' names and details, your town, the date and the weather, to write the scene and paint the picture. When you add a pet or tap "Redraft from photos", up to three of that pet's photos are also sent to draft a description of how it looks.
- Anthropic (Claude): used only if the others are unavailable, to write the scene or the pet description. It receives the same kind of information.
We use these services through their business APIs. Under those terms they process the data to provide the service to us and may not use it to train their models. They may keep it for a limited time (typically up to 30 days) to detect abuse, then delete it. We don't send them your account ID, your name or anything else that identifies you.
Art is only made for a household after someone in it has agreed. If you'd rather not share with these services, you can't use Petcast's art features. To withdraw your consent, delete your photos (or your whole account), as described below.
Who else we share with
- Cloudflare hosts our servers, database and image storage.
- Open-Meteo and MET Norway provide weather. They receive only approximate coordinates and a date, from our server, with nothing that identifies you.
- Apple (and, once Petcast is on Android, Google) handles purchases and subscriptions through its app store. When you look for nearby shelters on iPhone, the app searches Apple Maps for your area from your phone.
- Your household: people who join with your invite code see the household's pets, photos, settings, art and members' names.
- Share links: when you share a picture, anyone with the link can see that picture, your pets' names and the scene description. Nothing else in your account is visible.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, or to protect people's safety or our rights.
- Business transfer: if Petcast is sold or merged, your data would move with it under this policy, and we'd tell you first.
We never sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- We keep your data while your account exists.
- Deleting a photo removes it from our storage right away. Removing one pet from a group photo keeps the photo for the other pets. Deleting a pet also deletes the photos that show only that pet.
- Deleting your account (Settings → Delete my account) removes your account, your ratings and your usage events right away. If you're the last person in your household, its pets, photos, settings and art are deleted too, and any share links stop working.
- Shared households: pets, photos and art belong to the household. If you leave or delete your account while others remain, the things you added stay with them, and art keeps being made from them. If you want your photos gone, delete them before you leave, or email us and we'll help.
- Copies in server logs and backups expire within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- View and change your pets, photos and settings in the app at any time.
- Delete photos, pets or your whole account in the app.
- Location access is optional: you can type your town instead.
- Email us to get a copy of your data or to ask any privacy question.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your data, to object to or limit some processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever they live. Email support@petcast.app and we'll answer within 30 days. We don't sell or share personal information as defined by California law.
For people in the EU and UK, our legal bases are: providing the service you asked for (contract); your consent for sending pet photos and details to AI services, which you can withdraw by deleting your photos or account; and our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and improving it (usage events).
Children
Petcast isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Where data is processed
We're based in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Sign-in tokens are stored only as secure hashes on our servers, and photos and art are kept in private storage that needs your token to read (except pictures you choose to share by link).
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For significant changes, we'll let you know in the app before they take effect.
